2000 Point Table Top Tournament

So, back from the tournament.  Our group had 5 peeps representing in an 18 man tournament.  HornedRatRob brought his Skaven, Rogar of the Hill People brought Lizzy’s, as did Evil Avi, Skurt brought Ogre Kingdoms, and I brought my Khorne Demons (Beast are not completely painted yet).  Trip up was fun and without any issues.  Note: I totally forgot my camera in Rogar’s van, so no pics for you!  I suggest checking out HRR’s blog for pics.  He’s got pics of our game.  I’ll report about that later.

The site: If you all are ever in the Kansas City area, you should check out Table Top Games and Hobbies.  The store is EVERYTHING one could hope for in a game shop.  Stocked shelves, Huge / Clean gaming space, excellent tables / terrain, friendly staff, and the Ower is a great guy.  Check ’em out… seriously.

The list: Bloodthirster (BT) with re-rolls CC hits, and killing blow ax.  BSB (-2Ld banner, armor of Khorne).  Herald (armor of Khorne).  40 Bloodletters (BL) full cmd.  39 BL full cmd.  3 X 5 Chaos Furries (CF).

Game 1: DoC v Dark Elves

First off, don’t change a list you prepared late at night.  You make dumb decisions and wonder what you were thinking the rest of the following day.  I KNEW I’d have to face many hydras and of course knew that HRR was bringing an HPA, so what do I do?  I equip my BT with the killing blow ax instead of the flaming ax.  I can tell my tactical genius has impressed the readers.  I’ll pause to allow time for you all to regain your composure.  Anywho, my opponent brought a huge spearmen unit (with Supreme sorceress packing the sac dag… of course), a large unit of cross-bowmen (with a lvl sorceress), a large unit of cold ones (with BSB and Noble), and of course 2 Hydra’s (man really wishin’ I brought my flaming ax).  I’ll keep the report short.  My CF’s set-up the cold one’s for a flank charge by a horde-0-BLs.  He bounced the Snake Eyes to pass the break test (then we high-5’d), but they all died the following turn.  BT took down one of the Hydra’s (but it took him some time).  Other horde of BL’s took massive damage from Xbow’s and Hydra.  Hydra flanked them, but failed to destroy them.  They combat reformed and killed him off the following turn.  In the bottom of the 6th the xbow (with the help of much magic through the game) took down the weakened horde.  When the points were tallied up, I won by 300’ish points.  1-0

Game 2: DoC v Warriors of Chaos

My opponents list was fairly weak.  2 hellcannons, juiced Tzeentch sorcerer, BSB, 2 units of Khorne Knights, 1 unit of fast cav, 1 tiny unit of Nurgle warriors, 1 tiny unit of Khorne warriors.  Quick summary.  Lost the BT in the top of the 2nd due to magic / shooting and a poor CC phase against Chaos Knights w/MoK.  Rest of the game had my horde units destroying the rest of his army.  CF units were able to confuse the other enemy units and pretty much allow me to take on his army as I saw fit.  When the game ended all he had left was a single fleeing Khorne Knight.

Game 3: DoC (K53) v Skaven (HRR)

First off, both HRR and myself were at the top of the leader board at this time in the tournament, so this was going to decide who won.  I honestly felt pretty good going in… after the Turn 5 Table HRR handed me, I felt a bit embarrassed that I was actually confident prior to the game starting.  As the victor gets to write the history, I suggest checking out HRRs blog for the deets of the battle, but I’ll provide a brief summary (the wounds are still fresh).  Early in the game, shooting was effective for HRR, but nothing that was game changing.  His magic on the other hand was PAINFUL!  His report didn’t go into detail describing the damage he did, but it made a huge difference in the game.  There were some huge blunders I made with my BT (that HRR was kind enough to point out on the way home) that had I not done… well, they may have postponed the Table until turn 6.  There is a VERY sneaky trick that HRR has done to me twice now.  The next time I see him, I’m going to see if he’ll blog about it.  Each time he’s pulled it off on me (and yes, he did it in our game at the tournament), it really throws a monkey wrench in my plans.

The results: HRR took 1st place, but also got a painting award.  Evil Avi and his Lizzy’s took 2nd.  HRR’s beat down on me was so severe that he knocked me down to not only 3rd, but a tie for 3rd.  OUCH!!!

The loot: For prize support we got gift certs to the store.  I picked up a board game “Last Night on Earth” with my loot.

Thanks for reading!
